Class Descriptions

Classes:
GAFA Studios offers a wide array of dance classes including: Ballet, Contemporary, Hip hop, Jazz, Modern, Pointe,  Musical Theater, Tap, Acro and Conditioning.

Students must complete prerequisites before enrollment in advanced level classes. Mastery of a previous level is required for advancement to the next level. Teachers will notify students and parents of their readiness for advancement.

BALLET:

Primary Division
Pre-Ballet/Tap: Ages 4-5

Beginning Ballet: 6-8 years old (6 and up or mastery of Pre-Ballet)
 

Beginning Tap/Jazz/Tumble: 6-8 years

Beg. Broadway:  Ages 5+

Junior Division
Ballet 1: Completion of Beg. Ballet and/or age 7+.  Placement determined by staff.

Ballet 2: Completion of Ballet 1 and/or age 8+. 

3+ years of consistent ballet training at an intermediate level. Placement determined by staff.

Ballet 3: Completion of Ballet 2 and/or age 10+.  3+ years of consistent ballet training at an intermediate level. Placement determined by staff.

Senior Division

Ballet 4: Completion of Ballet 3 and/or age 12+.  3+ years of consistent ballet training at an upper level. Placement determined by staff.

Ballet 5-6: Completion of Ballet 4 and/or age 13+.  5+ years of consistent ballet training at an upper level. Placement determined by staff.

POINTE:

Junior Division
Pre-Pointe: Upon readiness of student as determined by the instructor. Must be dual enrolled in one Ballet class. 

Beg. Pointe: Completion of Pre-Pointe as determined by instructor. Must be dual enrolled in two ballet technique classes.

Senior Division

Int./Adv. Pointe: Completion of Beg. Pointe. Must be dual enrolled in two Ballet technique classes level Ballet 4+.
 

JAZZ:

Junior Division
Jazz 1: Completion of Beg. Jazz and/or age 7+.  Placement determined by staff.

Jazz 2: Completion of Jazz 1 and/or age 8+. 

1+ years of consistent Jazz training at an intermediate level. Placement determined by staff.

Jazz 3: Completion of Jazz 2 and/or age 10+.  

2+ years of consistent Jazz training at an intermediate level. Placement determined by staff.

Jazz 4: Completion of Jazz 3 and/or age 12+.  

3+ years of consistent Jazz training at an Intermediate level. Placement determined by staff.

Jazz 5-6: Completion of Jazz 4 and/or age 13+.  3+ years of consistent Jazz training at an upper level. Placement determined by staff.

​TAP:

Junior Division
Tap 1: Beginner/intermediate. Ages 6-10

Tap 2: Intermediate. Ages 11+. Completion and mastery of Tap 1. 

Tap 3: Advanced. Ages 11+. Completion and mastery of Tap 2. 


Modern:

Junior Division
Modern 1: Ages 8+. 

Modern 2: Ages 10+ and/or mastery of Modern 1 technique. 

Modern 3: Ages 10+ and/or mastery of Modern 2 technique. 

Modern 4-6: Ages 12+ and/or mastery of preceding Modern Level and placement by instructor. These students should have 3+ years of Modern previously. 

CONTEMPORARY:

All students enrolled in Contemporary must also be DUAL ENROLLED in Modern. 

Junior Division

Contemporary 1: Placement determined by staff. Ages 9+
 

Contemporary 2: Placement determined by staff. Ages 11+, Mastery of Contemporary 1 and/or 2+ years in Modern. 

Contemporary 3: Placement determined by staff. Ages 12+, Mastery of Contemporary 1-2. 

Contemporary 4: Placement determined by staff. Ages 13+ and/or Mastery of Contemporary 2-3.

HIP HOP:

Junior Division
Hip Hop 1: 7-10 years old

Hip Hop 2: 11+ and older

Hip Hip 3: Mastery of Hip Hop 2 / Ages 14+

MUSICAL THEATER:

Musical Theater 1: Ages 10+

Msuical Theater 2: Ages 13+

​

ACRO:

Ages 7+ No Prerequisites.
